A Tradition of Excellence
Ambassador Floor Company was established in 1985 by Bob Taylor, who brought with him the knowledge and experience of selling floor covering in the St. Louis market for more than 30 years. Operating out of a 4,000-square-foot building that housed a showroom, office and warehouse, our original focus was to provide carpet, hardwood and sheet vinyl to St. Louis’ leading new home residential builders. By the late ’80s, that business grew to include commercial contractors, developers and remodelers. We also added ceramic tile to our product line, and we relocated to a 10,000-square-foot facility in the Westport area of St. Louis.
By the early ’90s, our reputation had grown to be one of the leaders in the new home residential arena. In 1997, Bob Taylor became “chairman of the board,” handing the business over to his youngest son, Kelly Taylor. By 1998, we relocated to an 18,000-square-foot facility in the Chesterfield area of St. Louis. At this time, we were running more than 100 men in the field, and designers and retail homeowners grew increasingly interested in our business. Staying true to the company’s original reputation, we held onto our union affiliation and ran only union men who were employed and outfitted with company-provided equipment.
In 2003, Ambassador Floor Company needed to relocate to a larger facility, which we built less than a mile away. The new facility would be over 50,000 square feet, the warehouse more than 20,000 square feet, and the showroom 15,000 square feet.
This increase in size allowed us to showcase a wider range of carpet, hardwood, ceramic, vinyl, marble and granite products in every imaginable color, texture and style all from the finest manufacturers in the industry.
Since spring of 2004, we have offered the finest in home furnishings and accessories through our For The Home division, with name brands that are the envy of designers, builders and home owners alike. Also added in 2004 was our synthetic turf division, TTI Sports. This division has installed hundreds of athletic fields across the country at high school, collegiate and professional levels. This division operates from California to New York and includes 25 states in between. These divisions, along with a growing interest of the retail homeowner, allowed us to weather the home builder crisis of 2008-2009. We have continued to own the largest market share of new home residential in the St. Louis market. And, our continuing efforts with promotions, advertising and our desirable location have allowed us to plan for growth in 2010.
