The Ambassador Experience

Written by creatingyourspace on . Posted in News From Us

Do a Google search for “home flooring” and store after store will pop up. There’s no shortage of retailers who want to sell you carpet or hardwood or tile…but that’s all they do. They sell you the floor, sometimes – but not always – install it (usually as quickly as possible), and they’re done.

“Sounds good to me,” you may be thinking. “What else do they need to do?”

Oh so much.

Let’s start with choosing a floor. In many stores, you walk in, look around a lot, maybe do some research on Google, and make a decision. You think (hope…OK, actually worry a little, but go with it anyway) that you’ve chosen what’ll work in your home with your family. You’ve gotten little to no help in this search from the flooring company – it’s just not part of what they do. They sell floors. You’re on your own to figure out what floors.

Then let’s talk actual flooring. In the flooring world, you get what you pay for – the cheapest rarely equates to the best. But for big box stores needing to hit certain budgets at certain times, it’s all about moving inventory, and the flooring quality can vary widely. Ambassador Floor only partners with manufacturers offering the highest quality flooring, so no matter what you buy at Ambassador, you know the quality will be there.

That’s important – not only because you obviously don’t want to waste your money on cheap floors – but because flooring is a significant investment in your home. It’s where your toddler takes her first steps. It’s the background for endless hide-and-seek games with your kids on rainy days. It’s where your teen daughter takes her first wobbly steps on high heels for her first dance at school. It’s the palette of the canvas that is your home where you raise your family and make the memories that help define a family.

Ambassador Floor understands that. We respect the investment in your home by adding quality, experience, and expertise to create floors worthy of your home and family. For more than 30 years, we’ve helped individuals and families create a beautiful, lasting foundation for their everyday lives. And that’s what we mean when we say there’s oh so much more to flooring than just floors.

Glass Shelves in the Bathroom

Written by creatingyourspace on . Posted in Bathroom, Design Tips

Glass shelves are a versatile storage option for the bathroom.  Glass shelves can be hung throughout the bathroom. In smaller spaces like a bathroom the glass will take up less visual space than a wood or painted shelf.

Glass shelves virtually disappear into the wall behind them. If you use a floating shelf design like in this bathroom, the shelf will blend in with whatever is behind it. This allows your beautiful backsplash to be uninterrupted by the shelf. This is important when you have an intricate pattern like a mosaic or border.

Tempered glass is always a good idea in a bathroom for a shelf or a shower door. Tempered glass will not shatter into shards, which can be dangerous in a bathroom with its tile or wood floor.  If you have a glass shower surround, glass shelving in the room can unify the design.

Glass shelves can be hung above the toilet as well as above the vanity.  You can vary the depth of the shelf depending on its use and placement in the bathroom. Thicker shelves can be used to store extra toilet paper, jars of Qtips and cotton balls, or even extra washcloths and hand towels in neat rolls. Smaller shelves can hold toothbrushes and toothpaste.

No matter the material you choose for shelves in the bathroom, make sure you secure them to the wall with the proper screws for your wall type. Going into a stud is always a good idea when hanging a shelf that will hold any weight.

Decorating a Home Office/Spare Bedroom

Written by creatingyourspace on . Posted in Design Tips

The term spare room is kind of a misnomer. For most homeowners any extra space is a luxury that is quickly gobbled up and turned into something: a playroom for the kids; a guest room; a home office.  This room shows a smart way to combine a home office and a guest room into one stylish space.  Home office/bedroom doesn’t mean shoving a desk in the corner of the guest room or squeezing a queen size bed into the office.  This room is a true multifunctional room that is the best of both.

Rather than having a big bed in a small room, a convertible day bed/sofa is used.  While this won’t accommodate two guests, it will work for a single guest.  During the day or when the room is not being used as a guest room, the sofa provides a comfortable place to lounge and relax.

The work desk is also very stylish and can be cleared of work papers and laptop for a guest’s visit. Having a few file cabinets or a bookshelf with doors to hide work and home finance paper work would optimize the storage in this space. The storage ottomans as coffee table are portable and easily moved around the space.

Neutral colors make this space guest friendly.  The patterned area rug adds interest and coziness.  A few pieces of art on the walls would help warm up the space and keep it from feeling too sterile. Even personal family photos would be nice hung as a gallery wall.

Written by creatingyourspace on . Posted in Design Tips

Do you have a moody bathroom? Many homeowners have a fear that dark bathrooms are dreary and depressing. However, dark bathrooms can be quite alluring with the right design elements. One of those elements is the countertops. The bathroom countertop is important because it helps to establish the look and feel of the entire room. A dark bathroom countertop can create much needed drama in your bathroom without going overboard.

There are a variety of textures that can come into play with your dark bathroom countertops. These countertops give character and personality to an otherwise lifeless room and create an interesting work of art that is still functional and practical.

Why Laminate Flooring is a popular choice

Written by creatingyourspace on . Posted in Design Tips

When you are looking to replace the flooring in your home, consider laminate flooring. Laminate floors are very popular for a number of reasons. Laminate can basically look like any type of flooring you want – hardwood, ceramic tile, natural stone and more! The laminate floors of today are not like the ones of the past that were easy to spot.

With advanced technology, manufacturers can now create realistic visuals and textures for an elegant and quality floor. Check out some of the great reasons why laminate flooring is such a popular flooring choice:

  • patterns mimic wood and natural stone
  • good choice for the look without the maintenance or cost
  • offers significant value
  • range of colors and styles, including exotic
  • durable for active lifestyles
  • stain resistant, no wax or varnish
  • less likely to fade in sunlight
  • sold in Europe for 25+ years
  • 10-20 times harder than laminate countertops
  • floated rather than secured directly
  • installed over a variety of subfloors
  • one of the best selling floors in the US
  • great impact and indentation resistance
  • easy to replace, if desire

Want laminate flooring for your St. Louis area home? Ambassador Floor Company is here to help! Just give us a call at 636-728-1600.

Going Urban and Chic with your Home Interiors

Written by creatingyourspace on . Posted in Design Tips

Now that we are well into the 21st century, it is time for our home interior style to transform in some form or fashion. There is a way to update each particular home design style to fit your home personality. For those homeowners who prefer the more modern chic lifestyle, you’ll want to update your interiors to have more urban edge.

Urban chic interiors should never be cluttered or complicated. People who are drawn to the urban chic home style usually love high tech, low maintenance and luxurious appeal. For them, less is more and  form faithfully follows function. When you are planning a urban chic redecorating project, you should approach it by treating your spaces like pieces of three-dimensional art, balancing form, shape, color and texture – texture from rough and smooth to glossy and matte. Each space should be  highly functional, well organized, contain lots of storage, ordered and  meet the demands of your modern life.
