The Retreat in Your Own Home

Written by creatingyourspace on . Posted in Design Tips

Your bedroom is your retreat, one of the most personal rooms in your home and the place that you go to when you want to relax and feel comfortable. Choosing your bedroom flooring is incredibly important because this is the one room where you will most likely be barefoot in your home while at the same time simultaneously needing your floor to work aesthetically in a way that fosters tranquility and happiness.

You have several options when choosing the bedroom flooring that is right for you. What is most important is making sure that you make your decision based on several criteria—you will want to factor in your own design aesthetic, the size and layout of your bedroom, and the climate you live in.

The most traditional of bedroom flooring choice is hardwood. If you love the look of hardwood but don’t like the feeling of cold feet on hardwood floors, you can still enjoy the elegance of the hardwood in your bedroom.  Simply incorporate an area rug into your bedroom layout or include a small rug next near your bed. Other economic and sustainable options include hardwood floor alternatives such as bamboo.

Carpet is also a great option for your bedroom and you can accomplish this look in several different ways. If you have a hardwood floor you could choose a large area rug that centers under your bed and radiates out into the room, adding a splash of color and texture. If you want to fully carpet your room there are many different carpeting choices and which one is right for you will depend on how much foot traffic your bedroom receives while also factoring in what type of design aesthetic you wish to accomplish.

There are many different flooring options for your bedroom and it can sometimes feel overwhelming choosing what is best for that special room where you go to rest and recharge. What is important is knowing that you have options and then choosing what type of flooring feels most natural and relaxing to you.  At Ambassador Floor, we are happy to help you choose the option that will be best in your bedroom retreat!

The Four Seasons of Decorating: Spring

Written by creatingyourspace on . Posted in Design Tips

Post close springWhich season is your favorite? There’s something to love about every season, and any room in your home can reflect any season. Thinking of a specific season when decorating a space helps you keep everything integrated. Without even trying you will end up with a space that is cohesive and inviting.

We’re going to consider how to reflect each of the four seasons in your home, starting with spring. To begin – what does spring mean to you visually? Most people think of growth, light and freshness. After a long winter, the flowering trees and plants provide a wealth of colors and textures to work with.

Starting with flooring, light bamboo perfectly captures the fresh growth tone of spring. Light wood cabinetry and furniture carries that fresh theme throughout the room. Lots of white provides a critical sense of light – how about crown moldings, wainscoting and baseboards painted a bright glossy white? For window coverings, either white shutters or bright white sheers at the windows match the mood of the season.

Wrap up with an inexpensive accessory option – flowering spring plants in pots. Whether you set them on a windowsill or scatter them throughout the room, fresh plants carry the very spirit of spring into your space.

Think of specializing in spring when you decorate, because when you bring spring into a room, you have it with you no matter what the weather.

Parquet Flooring Makes a Comeback

Written by creatingyourspace on . Posted in Events and Happenings

Remember parquet flooring? Parquet flooring uses arrangements of wood-block flooring to create geometric patterns and mosaics for decorative effect. The durable patterned wood flooring seen in pre-war housing–and NBA floors–is making a comeback in the residential market. Now, the old material is being re-imagined with new finishes and contemporary designs.

The return of wood-block parquetry along with other carpet and flooring trends debuted at the Surfaces 2011 trade show last week in Las Vegas. Those trends include the continuing popularity of all types of wood flooring, especially wide-plank wood flooring, eco-friendly flooring such as cork and bamboo, and ceramic tile flooring in large formats, bright colors, and wood patterns. Technologically advanced engineered wood flooring is enabling manufacturers to produce even more versatile and innovative flooring than before.
