Revamp Your Bedroom

Written by creatingyourspace on . Posted in Design Tips

As the weather turns colder, most people will find themselves spending more time indoors.  Make sure your bedroom is ready for the cold weather!  Sprucing up your bedroom doesn’t need to mean making major changes. There are several items within a bedroom that can be revitalized to make it feel cozier and ready for the fall and winter.

Reupholster the headboard. This can be done with minimal effort and material. Doing this makes your bed appear to be brand new. Upholstered headboards can be re-covered as many times as you desire, whether you change your style or simply want a fresh look.

Change out the artwork over the bed. You can mix up the artwork around the room and find new homes for the pieces to live. Get a few new pieces to spice up the look of your bedroom. Three dimensional or sculpted art can be hung on the wall to add interest and a pop to your decor. Keep an open mind and eye for sculptural pieces throughout your home – however, make sure the pieces are not too heavy to hang on the wall!

Nothing helps a bedroom like switching out your bedding, especially if it looks dull or tired. The season change is a perfect time for this!  Put an extra blanket at the foot of your bed, change into flannel sheets or replace your summer comforter with a cozy down-filled one.  Your bedroom will look freshly designed!

Revive flooring by adding a new rug. A cushy rug adds warmth and comfort to the bedroom floor and creates a nice layered look. If your floor needs to be replaced, do so now before the cold weather hits!

Paint or wallpaper an accent wall. Doing so will transform the room with minimal effort and material. If you do not want to redo an entire wall, consider adding a wall decal. Decals are very easy to install and do not damage the wall when removed. A decal or a painted accent wall has the ability to set the tone for the whole room.

You can decide to tackle one or all of the ideas in this article. Before doing so, take a long look at your bedroom and decide what areas really need your attention!

The Retreat in Your Own Home

Your bedroom is your retreat, one of the most personal rooms in your home and the place that you go to when you want to relax and feel comfortable. Choosing your bedroom flooring is incredibly important because this is the one room where you will most likely be barefoot in your home while at the same time simultaneously needing your floor to work aesthetically in a way that fosters tranquility and happiness.

You have several options when choosing the bedroom flooring that is right for you. What is most important is making sure that you make your decision based on several criteria—you will want to factor in your own design aesthetic, the size and layout of your bedroom, and the climate you live in.

The most traditional of bedroom flooring choice is hardwood. If you love the look of hardwood but don’t like the feeling of cold feet on hardwood floors, you can still enjoy the elegance of the hardwood in your bedroom.  Simply incorporate an area rug into your bedroom layout or include a small rug next near your bed. Other economic and sustainable options include hardwood floor alternatives such as bamboo.

Carpet is also a great option for your bedroom and you can accomplish this look in several different ways. If you have a hardwood floor you could choose a large area rug that centers under your bed and radiates out into the room, adding a splash of color and texture. If you want to fully carpet your room there are many different carpeting choices and which one is right for you will depend on how much foot traffic your bedroom receives while also factoring in what type of design aesthetic you wish to accomplish.

There are many different flooring options for your bedroom and it can sometimes feel overwhelming choosing what is best for that special room where you go to rest and recharge. What is important is knowing that you have options and then choosing what type of flooring feels most natural and relaxing to you.  At Ambassador Floor, we are happy to help you choose the option that will be best in your bedroom retreat!

Four Elements of a Hotel-inspired Bedroom

22348766_SFor many, hotel rooms conjure chic, calm feelings. When decorating your own bedroom, borrow elements from your favorite hotel rooms to achieve a sophisticated, relaxing look.

White bedding

Possibly the most important part of a hotel-inspired bedroom is high-quality linens. High thread count sheets, a waffled blanket and a fluffy comforter encased in a sateen duvet will invite you to melt into your bed. Crisp white is surprisingly easier to care for than a pattern or color.

Plush flooring

A place to rest tired feet is essential, especially if you have hardwood floors. A neutral rug, placed on either side or at the foot of the bed, will allow you to step out of bed in comfort. A white rug with a dark grey pattern would look fantastic. Add a memory-foam pad for a surprising indulgence.

Blackout curtains

Deep, restorative sleep can be achieved with the help of blackout curtains. Select a heavy curtain that blocks all light, or add a separate panel to the back of an opaque curtain. A dark grey velvet curtain would pop against a neutral wall and your new bedding.

Sitting area

To really achieve the look of a sophisticated hotel room, you’ll need to add a sitting area. The type is up to you! Maybe you need a plush reading chair near the natural light. Or, perhaps you’d like a small table and sturdy chair for applying makeup. Even a structured settee can invite conversation in the bedroom.
A bedroom retreat is just what you need to escape a long day of work and family. Creating a hotel-inspired master suite can help you feel rejuvenated in your own home.
