Keep Your Carpet Looking Great With These Tips

Written by creatingyourspace on . Posted in Maintenance Tips

Carpet is a stylish and comfortable flooring option, and at Ambassador Floor Company in Chesterfield, Missouri, we carry a huge variety of high-quality carpets from the best brands, like Karastan, Mohawk, and many others.

Stains happen, but you don’t have to let them ruin your carpet! Find out how to keep your carpet looking great with these helpful tips from Real Simple.

To clean stains from wine, ketchup, chocolate, coffee, tomato sauce, juice, etc:

  • Use a white cloth and detergent solution to dab at the spot repeatedly, then hold and press the cloth on the stain for a few seconds. After 15 minutes, soak up any excess liquid with a dry white cloth.
  • Next, repeat step one but use white vinegar instead of detergent. Wait another 15 minutes, allowing the white vinegar to remove any detergent left in the carpet fibers, which if left will attract dirt.
  • Rinse the carpet by blotting with a cloth and lukewarm water. Let dry.
  • If the spill is particularly bad, put a 1/2 inch stack of white paper towels on the stain and sit a baking dish on top for 15 minutes.

(Tips are for synthetic fiber rugs. For tips on cleaning natural-fiber rugs, check out the article linked above.)

Karastan’s “Something’s Gotta Give” Design Inspiration

Written by creatingyourspace on . Posted in Design Tips

Earlier this fall Hearst Magazines launched ‘Designer Visions: Cinema Style’  Showcase at The Setai Fifth Avenue Hotel and Residences in New York City. At the showcase, various designers created luxury living spaces that were inspired by films.  Our favorite apartment was inspired by “Something’s Gotta Give”, take a look!

House Beautiful

The designers, Jim and Phoebe Howard, used the Zanzibar rug by Karastan, which features a subtle diamond block pattern in a neutral driftwood palette to recreate Diana Kenton’s character’s stunning beach home from the film, in the Manhattan ski line.

House Beautiful

In the home office, Jim and Phoebe used a silver wool carpet from Karastan to create a minimalist look with sleek lines to appeal to Jack Nicholson’s character.

The Green Characteristic Of Wool

Written by creatingyourspace on . Posted in News From Us

There are many factors that can affect the quality of your indoor air, including your carpet. There are many low VOC (volatile organic compounds) emission carpets, but it is wool carpets that will work harder than other materials to remove contaminants from the air and improving the health of the indoor environment.

Wools of New Zealand has given noticed to this “green” characteristic of wool through a new Wool: Clean Air Certification program. Carpets that carry a Wool: Clean Air Certified label have been tested by a certified independent laboratory and must pass stringent VOC emission testing for 13 contaminants. In addition, the products are required to meet scientifically established testing standards that verify reductions of VOCs in the indoors

“Wool is proven to significantly reduce indoor air contaminants within seven hours of installation and to keep contaminants out of the air for 30 years,” says Elise Demboski, executive director of North America for Wools of New Zealand. “Unfortunately, this unique attribute is overlooked since wool only represents 2% of the market. Through the Wool: Clean Air Certified program, we are bringing wool to the forefront where it will be noticed.”

Wool: Clean Air Certified is an Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) program managed by Wools of New Zealand. In addition to meeting the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED point requirements, the certification also meets the standards for California Section 01350 and Collaborative for High Performance Schools CHPS.

Carpets and rugs containing a minimum of 50% wool are eligible for Wool: Clean Air certification, with Wools of New Zealand partners benefiting from reduced testing fees. Product samples are submitted by platform, which is dependent upon backing and latex type. Every platform is fully retested on an annual basis to maintain the integrity of the Wool: Clean Air certification.

Karastan Carpets were one of the first companies to carry the Wool: Clean Air Certified label, according to Floor Biz Karastan had actually surpassed the testing standards and prove to significantly reduce indoor air contaminants.

Ambassador Floor Company in St. Louis is proud to carry Karastan Carpets.
