So what is it about quartz countertops that has many homeowners excited about their new kitchen? Well, if you weren’t aware, for the last several years quartz has been considered a green material. Known for characteristics like anti-mold and mildew, high durability, flexibility, stain resistance, chemical and solvent resistance and heat resistance, this popular option is a great choice for the countertops in the kitchen and even the bathroom.

Natural stone also uniquely enhances your kitchen and bathroom because each slab of stone has its own charachteristics or shading, veining, irregular markings and so forth that make it a one-of-a-kind piece, and in essence creates the beauty of the stone.

Selecting the Countertop Edge

Written by creatingyourspace on . Posted in Design Tips

If you’ve had the pleasure of building a custom new kitchen, then you’ve been faced with the challenge of coordinating the counter, cabinet, flooring, and appliance details. One decision you have to make before you can order your countertops is selecting the countertop edge and backsplash. Ambassador Floor Company offers a wide range of countertop and backsplash styles and materials including marble, granite, quartz, recycled glass and exotic marble.

The most popular marble and granite edge profiles are half and full bull nose; quarter bevel; and radius top, cove, ogee and double ogee; chiseled and dupont. The selection of the countertop edge is primarily one of personal preference.

Read an informative houzz article highlighting countertop edge selection by writer Rebekah Zaveloff, entitled, “Kitchen Details: The Right Edge for Your Countertop”. Regarding the coordination of details in the kitchen design, the author writes, “Each kitchen has something that stands out and says “look at me.” Sometimes it’s the tile, sometimes it’s the lighting, and sometimes it’s the countertop material. I make it a rule to avoid having everything shout for attention; that way there’s some breathing room.”

The Ambassador Floor Company showroom is located at 17770 Chesterfield Airport Road, a quarter mile west of Long Road, in Chesterfield, Missouri. Please call the showroom at 636.728.1600 to schedule an appointment during or after hours.

Set off Dark Cabinetry with Light Countertops

Written by creatingyourspace on . Posted in Design Tips

Dark kitchens are not always dreary and depressing. Dark kitchens can be highly stylish, comfortable and relaxed with the right design and materials. Dark kitchen cabinetry is sleek, fashionable and more versatile than people think. So when it comes to matching them up with the right countertop, choosing a light color will set off your dark cabinetry beautifully.

The countertops play a very important role in the kitchen from function to its aesthetic value. The light countertop will reflect light which will expand the space and lighten up the surroundings. The dark toned cabinets will add drama and formailty but the lighter countertops will soften the kitchen and help to finish the overall look of the kitchen.

Tips for Caring for your Countertops

Written by creatingyourspace on . Posted in Maintenance Tips

Soon you’ll be in the kitchen cooking up a fabulous holiday meal for all your guests. There will be plenty of slicing, dicing, mashing and roasting going on, so make sure you are taking the right precautions to properly care for your countertops. Here are a few tips to get you started:

  • Wipe down granite countertops with a damp cloth and a pH-neutral stone cleaner.
  • Avoid alkaline solutions like  soap, abrasive cleaners, and citrus cleaners when cleaning granite countertops.
  • Steel wool will scratch most countertops.
  • Only use food-grade mineral oil (except vegetable or olive oils) to prevent wood butcher block countertops from warping and drying out.
  • Use coasters or a tray under cooking oil bottles. They can leave a ring mark on stone surfaces that can be difficult to remove.
  • Protect your marble counter from things like: lemon, vinegar, tomato, and other acidic foods.
  • Protect your countertop from hot pots and pans with a trivet because burn marks are permanent.

Change the Look of your Kitchen with Countertops

Written by creatingyourspace on . Posted in Design Tips, slider

The cabinets do play a large role in the kitchen, but right behind them are the kitchen countertops. Many homeowners don’t realize that “the kitchen countertop takes a lead in determining how our kitchen designs will be perceived in terms of color, weight, balance, proportion, scale” – Certified Kitchen Designer Susan Serra

Your countertops can be the lead in your kitchen design, or it can follow, it simply depends on your preferences. Are you looking to make a bold statement with your countertops? Or are you going for a soft and calming look? You want to make sure you are looking at the kitchen as a whole when you are selecting your countertops.

Remember to visualize the countertops in your kitchen with all the accessories that will be placed on top of them. Are you looking to create a color story with those accessories? Or will they be in contrast to the countertop. For example: a modern, bold, countertop with traditional/eclectic/other accessories. – Serra

But just make sure you do not lose sight of the big picture.
