Did you know that according to the Carpet America Recovery Effort (CARE), more than five billion pounds of post-consumer carpet went into landfills in 2008, and that the rate of carpet recycling is only 5% in the US. STAINMASTER is doing its part to divert carpets from ending up in landfills and extending the carpets by recycling. The STAINMASTER® Carpet Recycling Program, a division of INVISTA’s Carpet Reclamation Program, is encouraging retailers and consumers to increase the ate of carpet recycling.
Many of the carpets recycled in the INVISTA’s Carpet Reclamation Program are recycled back into new carpets or carpet products. Carpets with nylon polymers (such as Type 6,6) can be recycled into other products, like automotive parts, with less refining. This approach saves energy and conserves resources.
The INVISTA Carpet Reclamation Program, the first nationwide carpet reclamation program has a uniquely simple approach that allows flooring retailers to take back all types of used carpet – regardless of make, fiber or manufacturer – so no carpet will ever go to a landfill. Since 2001, the program has collected more than 85 million pounds of carpet, resulting in more than 425,000 cubic yards of conserved landfill space.Click here to read more.
