Revamp Your Bedroom

Written by creatingyourspace on . Posted in Design Tips

As the weather turns colder, most people will find themselves spending more time indoors.  Make sure your bedroom is ready for the cold weather!  Sprucing up your bedroom doesn’t need to mean making major changes. There are several items within a bedroom that can be revitalized to make it feel cozier and ready for the fall and winter.

Reupholster the headboard. This can be done with minimal effort and material. Doing this makes your bed appear to be brand new. Upholstered headboards can be re-covered as many times as you desire, whether you change your style or simply want a fresh look.

Change out the artwork over the bed. You can mix up the artwork around the room and find new homes for the pieces to live. Get a few new pieces to spice up the look of your bedroom. Three dimensional or sculpted art can be hung on the wall to add interest and a pop to your decor. Keep an open mind and eye for sculptural pieces throughout your home – however, make sure the pieces are not too heavy to hang on the wall!

Nothing helps a bedroom like switching out your bedding, especially if it looks dull or tired. The season change is a perfect time for this!  Put an extra blanket at the foot of your bed, change into flannel sheets or replace your summer comforter with a cozy down-filled one.  Your bedroom will look freshly designed!

Revive flooring by adding a new rug. A cushy rug adds warmth and comfort to the bedroom floor and creates a nice layered look. If your floor needs to be replaced, do so now before the cold weather hits!

Paint or wallpaper an accent wall. Doing so will transform the room with minimal effort and material. If you do not want to redo an entire wall, consider adding a wall decal. Decals are very easy to install and do not damage the wall when removed. A decal or a painted accent wall has the ability to set the tone for the whole room.

You can decide to tackle one or all of the ideas in this article. Before doing so, take a long look at your bedroom and decide what areas really need your attention!

Color Pallet: Shabby Chic Cushion & Bouquet – Aqua, Pink, Purple

Have you ever considered decorating a room based on inspiration from something other than a photo of an entire room? It’s a fantastic way to come up with unexpected ideas that will make the rooms in your home unique and innovative. For example, take a look at the photo below. It’s just a bench, table, and bouquet. So, your first inclination might be to mimic it in a breakfast nook and call it a day. Instead, we suggest using it as a reference for color and accessory selection in any room in your house!

For purposes of this post we’ll focus on using it to achieve a delicate yet vibrant color scheme. As well as an ultra feminine and floral environment with some spunk! To do so we are going to break the elements of the room down in sections because it’s often easier to understand them that way. If you happen to be a novice, this approach will make learning our design a breeze! Just read the bullet points for each aspect of the décor and extract what works best for your personal vision.

The color pallet: Aqua, Spunky Rose Pink, Grape, Ballet Pink

What themes within the color scheme set the tone?

  • Pink – Love
  • Grape –  Elegance
  • Aqua – Tranquility

What makes it spunky?

  • The fun colored stripes on the seat cushion.

What makes the colors work well together?

  • They are all soft and equally vibrant
  • Green and red are complementary, and pink and aqua are derivatives of those colors so they are also complementary.
  • The purple also hints at a Triadic color scheme. This is three colors on the color wheel that coordinate nicely because they equally spaced apart on the wheel.

What makes it ultra feminine?

  • A ‘soft focus’ aura, nothing is overly stark.
  • A bouquet of flowers traditionally gifted to ladies on special occasions, which includes a spray a few dainty varieties.
  • Predominantly pink.
